Hey, not about this post, but I was afraid if I commented at your icon journal you wouldn't see it...I'm creating a romance/costume drama resource community in which I feature the best art/graphics from various users for different shows & movies that I can find, and would like your permission to feature some of yours there. Your work will be fully credited with your name and non-hotlinked. I won't open it for some months yet, as it's still in process, but will of course let you know when I do. :)

I think I do have email notifications on my icons journal turned off, so you did well in commenting here.

You are welcome to use and post my icons wherever you like. I'm flattered! And do let me know when you put the community up, it sounds really interesting.

:)

hey, i was going through bbc drama stuff ( am also a big big fan of costume drama!) on here and came across your journal. Love your style!
I love the way you wrote your bio - i'm also doing studies ( BA Media) and stuff and also am just sort of floating otherwise.
My hobbies include various things like good books, jazz, ska and alternative music, hanging with friends. I'm a fan of random conversations about random things and getting to know people.
My livejournal used to be lively but then my 'regular' online friends all got busy-busy, so it would be really nice to get to know more people on here if poss?
And yes, i know that that probably sounds a bit desperate and like i could be some axe-murderer, but i'm not and maybe it's ok to ask for friends in life?

Hey! You don't sound desperate to me at all and it's perfectly fine to ask for friends in life and indeed, in livejournal, really, because, isn't it what this is about? I have also noticed a decrease of my f-list activity, recently, and always welcome new friends, especially ones which such nice interests!

I'm looking forward to our random conversations so welcome abroad! :D

There's a difficult question! :) I'd say my favourite costume drama is probably the 'Persuasion' adaptation the BBC did in 1997 (the one with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root), although it's mostly for sentimental reasons. Don't get me wrong, it's a masterful adaptation of one of my favourite novels but I think I prefer it because it was one of the first ones I saw (and owned) and certainly the one which fired up my love for period pieces. Although If I had to be strictly objective I'd pick 'North & South' because it's so beautiful and so well paced and the actors are so amazing that I never get tired of it.

So, what about you?

Well, one of them has definitelly got to be ' Our mutual friend'( 1999, starring Paul McGann, Keeley Hawes, Steven Mackintosh and David Morrissey..
the acting was perfect..i also really like a story with a healthy bit of mystery and romance in it and it has both!
Have you seen it?

Yes, North and South was indeed stunning! ")I loved the actors and the romance! I also really loved the crispness and lucidity of the camera work.
I actually had to read it in school a while back too and the book itself is also great? Elizabeth Gaskell has a really simple, effective style which made me really identify with the social issues in it.
I have to say though, i've never seen the 1997 version of ' Persuasion'.
My Jane Austen favourites are(rather boringly as they're the most adapted ones)Pride and Predjudice and Sence and Sensibility..

Oh, I love Our Mutual Friend. Probably my third favourite, actually. It's so amazing and has four of my favourite actors, too. I especially love the scenes where Eugene is being chased around the city by Mr Headstone, they are so intense! It's also one of my favourite Dickens plots which makes it perfect.

I read North & South after watching the series and loved it, too. In fact, I read Mary Barton afterwards and was very impressed by the ability the writers of the tv series had shown in introducing a bit more of the social issues already in N&S by giving some of the characters more weight and similarities between those from Mary Barton.

You must see Persuasion! It's lovely.

Well, I love Sense & Sensibility and Pride & Prejudice, too, but I am no judge because I love all Austen :)

hmm.. i have never read Mary Barton, and i didn't know they'd fiddled around and added from it to the North and South film! Thankou, that's interesting! I will definitely go and look it up now, togther with Persuasion! ")
Talking about Jane Austen still, have you ever been to Bath? It has a fantastic museum dedicated to J.A and her time there.

'I especially love the scenes where Eugene is being chased around the city by Mr Headstone, they are so intense!'

i know! No mater how often i've seen that i still feel goosepimples creeping down my spine! I would so love to meet David Morrissey someday.. i met Mr Wrayburn, Paul McGann a few years back because he lived in my hometown and i went to a talk of his at the local arthouse cinema!

Q: Have you read ' The mystery of Edwin Drood', by any chance? It was Dickens's last, unfinished novel which i seriously think could have made a perfect ' rival' for Our Mutual Friend.

I'd love to go to Bath! In fact I have had my trip there completely planned for some time, now, the only thing missing in my big scheme is money, sadly. But, one day.

You met Paul McGann!? That's brilliant. Was he nice? I wouldn't know what to say to him if I ever met him, I admire him so much my mind would go completely blank.

I haven't read "The mystery of Edwin Drood", no. Sounds very interesting, though. In fact, I'd want to read all Dickens but it seems an unrealistic goal, as I appear to be constantly discovering new novels I had never heard of before! XD

Hola! Three years of Spanish, that's great. I'm sure you'd catch it up easily, again.

I like old churches would be "Me gustan las iglesias antiguas". "Altas" means "tall" which would actually make sense, too :D

I love Spanish cuisine, too. A bit too much, I'm afraid. ;)

Oh damn. I knew it. I got ' altas' confused with the german word ' alt' which DOES mean old. Glad 'alats' made some sence though.. ") I have too many languages in my head these days!
Oh, ' quiero' is ' i want', right? Lo siento! ")Am remembering.
Mmm.. food.. you can never have too much food... i love your seafood paellas and my spanish teacher once brought in churros and turron for us after a holiday in Malaga..

So tell me seomthing about Barcelona? Something the tourist books don't tell you? Do you have a favourite part of town, a favourite cafe/bar/club? I've never yet been but i'd really like to visit Barcelona someday, hence the questions! ")
